14 million people Will be Suffering from Desertification of Lake Urmia
Araz News: Member of Parliament from Urmia strongly emphasized the low budget in restoring Lake Urmia in Iran Parliament on June 22, 2016 . He stated that due to the onset of warm season and more using water for agriculture it’s remarkable that water level of Lake Urmia reduced in recent days.
Member of Parliament Mr. Hadi Bahadari said about the current situation of Lake Urmia that although the water level of Lake Urmia has increased compared with the same month last years however the water level has decreased over the past few months.
He reiterated: “the budget form National Development Fund and missionaries of the National Disaster Management is not enough to save lake Urmia and we should be considered certain budget for a complete reorganization of Lake Urmia crisis. Therefore, Urmia lake needs certain Budget support.”
MP from Urmia in Parliament said: “It is important to Understand the tragedy of Lake Urmia before becoming a desert Salt Lake and 14 million people will be suffering from desertification of Lake Urmia. We should know that the Lake Urmia crisis is a national problem and will be solved systematically with more efforts in long term.”
According to the latest news and information about the Iran Environmental Center, Urmia Lake water levels reached the highest levels 1271/15 m above sea level on May 22, 2016 compare with the data’s during the past three years however Lake water level goes down dramatically day by day.
