Untreated Sewage Water Is Flowing into Urmu Lake

Urmu Lake, which has been experiencing great troubles for many years, is being exposed to a more intense harm as the salt collecting companies moving to its shores. According to local sources, sellers can collect salt in the region to get income. Salt collecting companies are the closest companies to government authorities. All of this is clearly done, but the state’s law remains silent in the sense that it hurts the environment and does not take any measures. Salty air and the salt storms causes many diseases in the region. Environmental problems around Lake Urmu are not limited to this. The Iranian state plans to pump 260 million cubic meters of sewage water into Urmu Lake during the year. Now the sewers surrounding the ponds are poured without purification. The Urmu Lake Revitalization Center explains this by lack of funding and cleaning facilities. Ruhulla Hazetpur, a deputy of the Iranian parliament of Urmia, explained that in addition to industrial and non-industrial wastes, sewage waters are located in Urmu Lake. He said that this is a serious threat to environment the lives of people living in the region. Nadir Gazipur, another deputy of Urmiye, has objected the evacuation of the sewer to the lake. The root cause of this problem was the inadequacy of resources and the organization of Azerbaijan’s environmental stance. Many claim that the water in the lake is dirty even after cleaning. Nadir Gazipur said: “Urmiye waste treatment facilities do not comply with industrial waste water and sanitation. For this reason, water contaminated during rainfall is discharged to Urmu fertilizer. This situation causes serious damage to the environment. ” The West Azerbaijani Ministry of Justice has also announced that many birds living in the area have been killed as a result of the industrial wastewater and drainage ponds. Nevertheless, the Environmental Organization, the Iranian Energy Institute and other authorities are indifferent to the question, which threatens the lives of the living beings in the region and does not take any steps in this direction.
