Araz News: South Azerbaijani Society of America (SASA) and Karabakh Foundation participated in Global Languages and Cultures Network Festival representing respectively the South and North Azerbaijan.

International Language Network Festival is held annually in May in Washington DC aiming to promote diversity of world languages and cultures. This year representatives of many countries such as Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia, Zambia, Spain, Pakistan and Georgia took part in the festival.

Members of SASA, Mrs. Katayoun Sarnesar, Mrs. Vida Dushanchi, and Zahra Soulduzian gave information to the participants about language, culture and traditions of Azerbaijan in general and especially South Azerbaijan. They stressed the ban of education in mother tongue imposed to more than 30 million South Azerbaijani Turkish people.

The festival was covered via many media from various countries.

In interweave with Baku Based Lider TV channel, Head of SASA Mr. Babak Chalabiyanli said: “We want to introduce our language and culture to the world. Education in our language is banned in Iran and rights activists who struggle to gain education right in mother tongue are being oppressed by Iranian regime. Presently many Azerbaijani rights activists are jailed in Iran.”
