Protests in Iran extended to the Capital

Protests against economic problems that have continued in several cities in Iran for several days have erupted to the capital Tehran.

The protests against economic problems spreading to cities such as Mashhad and Shiraz together with Isfahan, which started in Isfahan three days ago in the country, extended to Tehran.

It was seen that the demonstrators participating in the demonstrations shared the images on the social media and the activists set fire to the garbage containers near “Veliasr Square” in Tehran.

Activists shouted out slogans and the drivers who went by the road also supported protesters by playing the horn.

The protest that started three days ago in Isfahan today spread to the cities of Mashhad and Shiraz. As a result of protests that started in December due to the Iranian economic crisis, 25 people lost their lives in many cities, including Mashhad and Isfahan.

Last month, as the dollar rallied rapidly, traders of the “Grand Bazaar”, one of Tehran’s most important shopping centers, closed their shutters for economic reasons, causing new protests to begin in the country. The measures taken by the government in the field of economy did not reduce the dollar’s price, but it further increased the size of the crisis in the market. In the free market, the dollar passed the level of 10 thousand Tumens. The sudden increase in the exchange rate reduces the purchasing power of the people, while in Iran, where jobs are toppling and unemployment is increasing, social media are calling for “general strike and protest”.
