Sustainable management of water resources in the Lake Urmu basin is conducted by Urmu Lake Animation Center with financial support of the Japanese Government. The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has issued an official statement on this issue. On January 31st the International Organization for the Emergency Project stated that Iran’s water shortage and sustainable agriculture issue is being discussed by the experts of international public open spaces. The aim of this project is to investigate the causes of water stress in the Urmu Lake basin and to provide a basis for exploration. According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, the relationship between sustainable socio-environmental factors and the sustainable use of agriculture and land was among the topics covered by international experts in this discussion . FAO official Aziz El Bahri said that the organizer of the event, United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (UNFPA), has taken the initiative to develop a joint action plan for the revitalization of Urmu Lake. According to him, water consumption and acquisition, the use of land, the right choice of planted products, the production of food products and markets, etc. should be considered in relation to each other. Huseyin Shahbazi, who is responsible for the international cooperation of Urmia Lake’s animation programs, said that he was presenting a report to international experts on the restoration programs on the occasion. Event participants agreed that in the near future Urmu Lake will bring more proposals to direct socio-environmental factors in the course of its revitalization.
