In the capital of Iran, Tehran, women who demonstratively attached white headscarf to the tip of a stick, as the sign of protest during the December events, is informed to be released.
The photo of the woman whose name was kept secret was shared intensely in the social media during the protests. Thousands of questions about womens whereabouts posted on Twitter in Farsi and English were shared in social media. Lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh said he saw the official document stating womans release. Iranian officials have yet to make a statement on this issue. It is estimated that this woman is 31 years old, and has one child.
Meanwhile, the photos of three women who repeated the same action became viral in social media. One of these women said that the action was carried out in İnkılab Square, in December.
The movement of women moving out of a high place and shaking the headscarf is spreading rapidly in society. However, this is not a ‘collective’ movement and the actions are carried out individually. Or it is rather possible that this is a collective action of some individuals …
A section from the campaign description of My Stealthy Freedom Movement, which began with Alinejad’s call last year; “We’re launching a new campaign called Unveiled Wednesdays or #WhiteWednesdays. It is a day for all men and women who are against head cover obligation. The campaign also addresses women who want to wear veils but oppose the idea of imposing it on others. Many covered women in Iran see the imposition of forced cover as an insult. These women show their objections to the necessity of covering by taking their white-dressed photographs. Our campaign is a peaceful protest against enforcement and we invite all of you to join us. “Men wearing white bracelets and women wearing white headscarves please send us your videos. The emblem of this protest against the obligation to cover is the white color which is the color of peace. Every Iranian woman living in Iran have a choice to wear a headscarf or not. Since advocates of compulsory headscarfs are allowed to do their rallies easily, everyday Wednesday we will show our position with white color that is the sign of our campaign. ” The woman’s photo was first used in connection with the White Wednesday campaign. During this campaign, women in Iran were dressed in white to protest the strict dress code in the country. Since the 1979 Islamic revolution in Iran, removing the headscarf considered as a criminal action.
