Araz News: Municipality of Urmia, capital of West Azerbaijan Province, gives back old Turkic names of some neighborhoods. Several signboards are put at the entrance of city’s old neighborhoods carrying the old names.

Municipality resources inform the act is carried out to protect city’s old culture, history and identity.

Many Azerbaijani citizens welcomed giving back the historical Turkic names.

Note that, in the recent years cultural and social demands of Turkic community in South Azerbaijan are increasing. In many cases the oppressed demands are appeared as political tensions. In some occasional cases the authorities response to some demands.
