Death in traffic accidents in South Azerbaijan doubled due to irresponsibility of the officials

South Azerbaijan’s non-standard roads continue to get worse resulting loss of lives.

According to the announced official statement, in the last four months, 160 people were victims of traffic accidents in the Zengan and Erdebil provinces.

Zengan Traffic Police Department Chief Ali Asgar Shirmehemmedi made a statement to the “Mehr” news agency on August 15th.

“In the past four months, 85 people have lost their lives in traffic accidents in the Zengan province. This number increased by 20 percent compared to the same period last year, “he said.

According to the Traffic Police Chief, 72 people died in a car accident on the way to Zengan in the last year.

Hamid Puraziz, president of the Erdebil State Inspection Center, addressed journalists on the road accidents. He said 75 people died in traffic in the last four months. This represents a 39 percent increase over the same period last year.

Hochet Fattahi, head of the Erdebil State Traffic Police Department, said that most of the accidents had happened in the North. He said that the roads in the region needed repair.

According to the traffic police chief, the main reasons for accidents are lack of roads, poor lighting, traffic signs and no separate white lines.

During this week Bahar Samadadad, president of the Center for East Azerbaijan Medical Expertise said that 204 people lost their lives in traffic accidents that took place in Eastern Azerbaijan for 3 months following the holiday of Nevruz. According to him, this figure increased by 45% compared to the same period last year.

Remember that thousands of people die in various traffic accidents every year in South Azerbaijan. Experts say that the cause of the accident; roads that are not standardized, poor quality of the cars and human factor.
