According to the Iranian official news agency IRNA, 283 Iranian citizens detained or convicted in Turkmenistan were transported to the country in front of the judicial authorities at the Lütfabad Border Gate. It is also reported that Iran has handed over the 4 Turkmen prisoners to the country. It was stated that the exchange took place after the decision of Iranian President Hasan Ruhani in the context of talks with Turkmenistan President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov in Ashgabad two days ago. Behram Kasımi, the spokesman of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, was among the arrested and sentenced persons transferred to the country, including two fishermen who were taken into custody for violating the Turkmen land waters in the Caspian Sea last week. The Turkmen security forces opened fire on the fisherman’s boat, with 4 Iranians, for violating the territorial waters of Turkmenistan. Two fishermen lost their lives and 2 were taken into custody.
