The Iranian State is Trying to Geopolitically Insulate South Azerbaijan
Iranian state is planning to snatch coasts of South Azerbaijan on the West with Turkey and on the East with Caspian Sea. The “Heyran Pass” which links the “Erdebil” and “Astara” cities to the east of southern Azerbaijan has a strategic preliminary for South Azerbaijan in terms of geopolitics. This passage connects the main part of South Azerbaijan to Turkish cities such as “Astara” and “Hishpper” on the Caspian coast. In 1956, the Iranian state tore away the cities of Astara and Hishpper, from SouthAzerbaijan and attached it to the state of Gilan, and thus by the decision of the official administrative system of Iran the connection of Southern Azerbaijan to the Caspian Sea was cut off. However, the strategic gateway, the Heyran Pass, was connected to Azerbaijan. In recent years, the Iranian state has been trying to link it to the Iranian gateway, Gilan, by separating it from the Erdebil region of South Azerbaijan. As a matter of fact, a signboard expressing the belonging to Gilan, was placed. Only this sign was dismantled by South Azerbaijani Turkish youths. This work of the Iranian state has caused the protests of the South Azerbaijani people, including local authorities and deputies. The Iranian state carries out the same policy in the western region of South Azerbaijan. Iranian state supports terrorist groups such as the PKK to create non-Turkish region between South Azerbaijan. After much controversy, the spiritual government appointed a native and non-Turkish governor to West Azerbaijan. This governor and his team have close dialogues with terrorist organizations. This governor works like a link between the Iranian state and the PKK. The regime is already making preparations for establishing a terrorist corridor like western Syria in western Azerbaijan. For this, the new governor has begun to dismantle the local authorities and even the commanders, who oppose the turbulent terror corridor project. The religious regime has begun to take a series of measures. The regime is taking measures against the 40% Turkish population in the country, which it sees as one of the most serious threats. Drying of Urmia lake to make the Turkish population to migrate and disconnect the South Caspian coast of Azerbaijan and Turkey are just a few of these measures.
