Member of Parliament: “Imprisoned Azerbaijani Scientist is not being given chance to defend himself”
Mahmud Sadiki, a member of the Iranian Parliament, is a South Azerbaijani scientist convicted of espionage. He said he received a complaint from Ahmedrza Jalali.
He then posted on Twitter: “Yesterday i recieved a complaint from Ahmedrza Jalali, who was sentenced to death by charges of espionage and announced as an enemy of the country. Initial investigations showed that there is not enough time to defend him during the trial. He said he was under pressure because of an interview with “Teleradio Company”. ”
The Iranian television has previously broadcast a video showing the confession of an Azerbaijani scientist, but repeatedly stressed that the defendants issued a statement under pressure.
On 8 February Jalali’s wife, Vida Mehranniya, sent a letter to Iranian President Hasan Ruhani’s deputy in charge of Women and Family, Sahidoksko Mövlaverdi, alleging violations of her husbands human rights. He also stressed that Jalali repeatedly objected an unfair court decision, but his claims was not taken into consideration.
The Iranian regime has accused Ahmadrza Jalali of being behind the assassination of two Iranian nuclear scientists and spying on Israel. However, in August the accused informed in a letter to International Amnesty that he was sent to prison for refusing Iran’s intelligence.
Report states that death sentences was approved without accepting the defense text of the High Court lawyers.
The unjust decision about the famous scientist was questioned by the international community and human rights organizations.
