Iran to create bank of criminals’ genes
Araz News:Aug. 24,Iran plans to form genetic data bank of four groups of criminals, Alireza Savari, an official with the Islamic Republic Judiciary said,Trend reported.
“Iranian legal medicine organization is tasked to form the genetic data bank for professional thieves, armed robbers, drug producers and consumers,” Savari said, Iran ’s official IRIB news agency reported Aug. 24.
One of the priorities of the Islamic Republic judiciary is forming comprehensive data bases about the elements involved in major crimes in the country, the official underlined.
He further said that at the beginning, genetic information of some 10,000 people will be included in the mentioned database by March 2016.
This measure will help criminal investigations and will lead to significant success in detecting crimes, he said, adding those who involved in charges also would withdraw repeating the crime considering the fact that police can easily seize them with their recorded DNA database.
Iran is among the top 10 countries in terms of prison population, according to the country’s officials.
Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr deputy head of the Islamic Republic Judiciary earlier said that the surveys indicate that the number of crimes occurring in Iran is alarming.
Police reports suggest turmoil in the issue, he said adding that the increasing number of judiciary case records is also an indicator of unacceptable conditions.
The number of prisoners in Iran stood at 217,851 in the 12-month period to March 2014.
About 9.8 million case records were submitted in Iran ‘s judiciary during the same period.
