Iran destroys 1.3 million of CDs with “illegal content”

Araz News: Iranian police have destroyed about 1.3 million of “obscene and smuggled” CDs in a ceremony in the capital city of Tehran on May 10.

The CDs with “illegal contents” were discovered and seized in Tehran in accordance with the police plan for fighting harmful cultural products, Tehran police chief Brigadier Hossein Sajedinia said.

He further said that at least 80 people have been arrested in Tehran in recent days, including those who where copying and distributing films illegally.

He did not unveil any further information about the type of CDs which have been destroyed.

Fighting illegal copying of cultural products, as well as confronting distributing of harmful cultural products is a priority for police, Sajedinia said, the country’s ISNA news agency reported May 10.

The police chief added that the police also fight with those who distribute illegal computer games.

Earlier, Sajedinia said that the police closed some 57 shops in Tehran which were copying and distributing CDs and DVDs with illegal content.
