The problem of terrorism in western parts of South Azerbaijan is a major concern of regions people. While the area’s people had to deal with ethic-oriented armed terrorist groups now the sectarian terrorism has become a new challenge for the region’s peace and presence.
These groups mostly are abusing Sunni Kurdish minority in dominantly Shiite Turkic populated South Azerbaijan. PJAK (PKK wing for Iran) and Wahhabi-Salafi sectarian extremists who support IS are the major concerns in region.
Attitude of the central government in Tehran toward the terror groups escalates anxiety of Azerbaijani people because the central government uses to play double game with such terror groups and use them for its benefits time by time.
