South Azerbaijani Activist Beaten Because of “Having Turkish Publications”

Araz News: South Azerbaijani right activist, Siamak Koushi has been arrested and hardly beaten by Iranian Intelligence officers because of having Turkish publications in his car.

According to South Azerbaijani sources, after Simak’s car was stolen he made an appeal to the police in city of Tabriz. Later, on 17th August he received a call from police station branch 13 of Tabriz, being informed his car was found. When approached to the police station officers from intelligence office of police asked him that they had found some “Turkish” (Azerbaijani Turkish) publication and if those were belonged to him. After he approves that the publications were belonging to him, he was arrested and transferred to intelligence office of police in Saeb Street of Tabriz to be interrogated. He was beaten hardly during the interrogation and was freed only after being forced to sign some papers.

Araz News correspondents in Tabriz say the event; including the stealing of car is not an unusual and unexpected situation because Iranian security and intelligence forces employ various methods to put pressure on Azerbaijani activists. Iranian regime plans to bring under control the national rights struggle in South Azerbaijan by frightening and intimidating Azerbaijani activists.

Kidnapping, beating, imprisonment, physical and mental torture, dismissing from occupation and university, threatening, puting pressure on family members and etc.  are only some of the methods employed by Iranian forces against political dissidents.
