Araz News: A committee of representatives of non-Persian nations and religious minorities in Iran met US secretary of state human rights officials in Washington DC on 24 July.

Araz News correspondent from Washington DC  reports that there were representatives of Azerbaijani, Kurdish, Balochi and Arab nations’ political organizations in the committee as long as minority Sunni Muslims of Iran.

The committee members have presented documents about human right violence against minorities in Iran and demanded US secretary of state to spend more effort on the issue and bring the question of minority rights on the table of negotiations with Iran. They urged secretary of state officials to support Mrs. Navy Pillay’s offer to put the issue of human rights in the agenda of nuclear energy negotiations with Iran. They also made call to US to condemn minority community member executions in Iran.

South Azerbaijani member of the committee Mr. Habib Azarsina said to Araz News that he had given information about major problems of South Azerbaijani Turks to the US officials such as severe cultural and linguistic restrictions, awful economic situation in South Azerbaijan, environmental disaster of Lake Urmia and that the Iranian regime is pushing Turkic population of the country out of the political and administration fields more and more.
