Does the Capacity of 40 students in Azeri Turkish language field enough for 40 million Turks? (Interview with Dr. Asghari)
This year, Iran’s university education system has established Azeri Turkish language field for the first time in the history of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s education system.
The Araz News English agency has special Reportage with Dr. Karim Asghari (expert in international relationship) about the establishing of Azeri Turkish language field at Iran’s university.
Hello Mr. Asgahri, does the capacity of 40 students in Azeri Turkish language field enough for 40 million Turk who live in Iran?
First of all, education in mother language is the elementary right of people and It is one of the most basic rights for everyone. Even though a community of 10 people having the right of learning their mother languages.And, a government should provide this opportunity for their society. According to Iran’s official statistics result, near 50 % of the population are the Turks and admission of 40 students are not enough for this amount of the population.Unfortunately, since the Pahlavi period this right has been taken from the Turks and other nationalities who lives in Iran. This year, university student will have a chance to select the Azeri Turkish language field on its exam booklet, but it’s absolutely not enough for 40 million Turk.
Dr. Asghari, Why Iran government has provided learning the Azeri Turkish language in the universities after 90 years?
We know that during the 90 years, Panfarsism policy has been seen in both Pahlavi regime and Iran Islamic regime.It’s not possible to assimilate whole society because people want to live according to their culture and their lifestyle and their identify is very important for them. It should be mentioned that Presidential elections will be held next year, so Mr. Rouhani wants to fulfill his promise about establishing Azeri Turkish language field.
What is your opinion about the Azeri Turkish terminology which named by Iran’s education system?
Using the Turkish word is true, however, using the Azeri word for Azerbaycan geography is completely wrong. It should named Azerbaijani Turkish language.
Last question Mr. Asghari, by providing this platform, What is the duty of Turkic-speaking youth?
The Turks who live in Iran should protect their identities and their mother language and they should demand their other human rights.

Dr. Karim Asgari was born in Tabriz on 24th of August 1979. He graduated from Shabestar university with a bachelor degree in history field and master’s degree in international relationship field form Tehran University in Iran. He is a PHD student in international relationship field at Ankara University. He is also responsible for International Relations of ANRO (Azerbaijan National Resistance Organization).
