Araz News (08.04.2014): Mahmoud Fazli, member of central committee of News National Awaking Movement of Azerbaijan, who is sentenced to 9 years imprisonment, began hunger strike in central prison of Tabriz. He informed his wife about the action by telephone. He objects being prevented of making an appeal to Supreme Court of the Country.
Imprisonment verdict of five South Azerbaijani activist from city of Miandoab (Qoshachay) notified. Habib Manafiazar, Darioush Andalibian, Javad Soudbar, Mokhtar Ebrahimi and Yousef Mokhtari are the five Azerbaijani activists who are sentenced to 3 months to 9 months each in prison. They were arrested in a memorial ceremony of South Azerbaijan’s National Government (1945-46).
Iranian security forces raided wedding ceremony of a South Azerbaijani activist in city of Shabester in East Azerbaijan province on April 5. Security forces detained right activist and musician Abbas Nikravan. Eyewitnesses have expressed Iranian servicemen beat him severely while detaining.
Mehdi Pourbeyram, an Azerbaijani university lecturer has been detained in South Azerbaijani city of Kaleibar due to his human rights activities. He was arrested on 24th January 2014 in his father’s home and is kept in prison of Ahar city since that date.
Charges of Mehdi Khatibi, an Azerbaijani political prisoner in Tabriz prison notified. He is charged of “propaganda against regime” and “cooperation with separatist groups”. He is in prison from 5th April 2014. He was arrested several times before in public events such as Lake Urmia protest rallies and Tractor-Sazi Club demonstrations.
