Extraordinary session of Kurultay — Crimean Tatar national council — is being held in Bakhchisaray.

212 Kurultay delegates voted in favor of a decree “on realization of the right of self-determination of Crimean Tatar people on their historic territory of Crimea”.

To recall, Refat Chubarov addressed the delegates to decide whether to hold a referendum among Crimean Tatars to determine their future.

He urged the delegates to approve “the start of political and legal procedures aimed at creating ethnic and territorial autonomy of the Crimean Tatars of their historic territory of Crimea.”

Russia annexed Crimea earlier this month, after residents of peninsula voted overwhelmingly to secede from Ukraine.
