Escalating Pressure on South Azerbaijani Activists Because of Mother Language Day Celebrations
Araz News: While South Azerbaijani activists celebrates International Mother Language Day by different ways Iranian security forces escalates pressure on the activists.
South Azerbaijani sources report against official applications by Azerbaijani right activists and campaigns on media Iranian authorities refused to issue permit for International Mother Language Day celebrations in Tehran and Tabriz.
Despite rejection by Iranian authorities South Azerbaijani right activists managed to celebrate International Mother Language Day in several South Azerbaijan cities.
Reportedly activist managed to send thousands of short massages (SMS) which celebrate Mother Language Day.
Also activists has distributed thousands of leaflets in cities of Tabriz, Urmia and Khoy to celebrate and give information about Mother Language Day and the importance of mother language.
This is while Iranian security force try to stop celebrations by putting pressure on activists.
Reportedly in city of Khoy three activists named Amin Hajilou, Eslam Ali Akbarlou and Araz Khase have been detained by security forces and transferred to central prison of Khoy.
Another activist named Aidin Zakeri has been arrested in city of Meshkin Shahr.
South Azerbaijani activist Ali Reza Farshi Yekani has been arrested in Tehran.
In Ardabil and Pars Abad cities security forces managed to make calls to dozens of activist threating them to prevent any activation related to Mother Language Day. Names of some of the activists who have received threat calls are Rahim Gholami, Ali Kheir Jou, Jafar Rostami Rad, Hamid Gouti, Meisam Jolani, Sajjad Jolani and Said Hosseini.
Education in Azerbaijani Turkish is main demand of South Azerbaijani people which is suppressed by Iranian authorities harshly.
