Russia and Iran Sign Military Cooperation Treaty against Separatism and Extremism
Araz News: Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehqan signed a military cooperation treaty on Tuesday 20th January 2015, in Tehran.
The two counterparts valued the treaty as a joint response to US interference.
The deal provides for joint exercises and military training, as well as “cooperation in peacekeeping, maintaining regional and international security and stability, and fighting against separatism and extremism,” the Iranian defense ministry website said.
Underlining the issue of separatism between Iran and Russia is an interesting case that political experts consider it as a measure of Iranian regime to deal with its internal ethnical and regional problems.
Rising centrifugal tendency among Turkish-speaking population in Iran, especially in the South Azerbaijan region which has long borders with Republic of Azerbaijan and Turkey has become a major concern for Iranian authority.
