Araz News: Head of Urmia Lake Restoration Program Mr. Isa Kalantari stated Tabriz, The largest city and historical capital of Azerbaijan will be the first victim of Lake Urmia disaster.

In a meeting in Tabriz University he added: “Some good steps have taken. Forming a 600-person work group in Sharif University is one of them. Unfortunately scientific and executive bodies are apart. Universities can take an important role in the restoration operation utilizing their scientific capability.”

While due to better rainfalls in the current year water level of Urmia Lake has risen slightly in compare with the last year, what is concluded from Mr. Kalantari’s statements is that the government has not done anything in practice yet and what done is only verbal.

While the authorities themselves say Lake Urmia’s fate is fate of Azerbaijan directly, surprisingly (or not surprisingly!) the Iranian government makes nothing to save Lake Urmia!
