Iran-Turkmenistan gas dispute was brought to the International Court of Arbitration
It was learned that Turkmenistan applied to the International Court of Arbitration for failing to resolve the dispute with Iran about the gas.
According to reports in the Iranian local press, the Turkmenistan government carried the dispute over natural gas with Iran to the International Court of Arbitration.
The Turkmenistan state had been short on gas shipment to Iran since January 1, 2017 on the grounds that “Iran has not paid debts since 2013”.
On the disagreement with Turkmenistan’s talks with Iranian officials, the Iranian side has suggested that the International Court of Arbitration go to both sides to resolve the issue in a mutually acceptable manner. Turkmenistan argues that Iran has a $ 1.8 billion debt, while Tehran government claims to have been bribed.
After the visit of Iranian President Hasan Ruhani to Turkmenistan in March, Turkmengaz Company lifted the shortage of gas flow that it had initiated in Iran.
