Presidential Election in the Republic of Azerbaijan
Today our brothers will experience the excitement of presidential elections in Azerbaijan. Under normal conditions, the elections in Azerbaijan, which should be held in October, were withdrawn 7 months ahead by President Ilham Aliyev’s decision. Eight candidates will compete with Aliyev in the elections. The Azerbaijan Central Election Board (AMSK) has established 5,641 polls in Turkey and abroad for the presidential election. Lastly, there are 5 million 309 registered voters in the country. Azerbaijani citizens living abroad will use their votes in the boxes established in the Azerbaijani embassies in the countries where they live. AMSK has installed a web camera in a total of a thousand boxes throughout the country. Throughout the election, voting at AMSK’s site will be able to be watched live. In the election, disabled citizens will also be able to vote easily. Braille alphabet voting papers and visually impaired voters will be able to use their votes. A temporary access ramp was established in 1455 polls, in which voters using wheelchairs were registered. Bedridden patients and handicapped people will use their votes in their homes, in transport boxes brought by the authorities. Present President Ilham Aliyev is shown as a favorite of the elections in Azerbaijan. In Azerbaijan, where there are 5.3 million electors, it is estimated that Aliyev can collect 80 percent of the votes in pre-election polls. A delegation of Turkish parliamentarians will follow the elections. Voting begun at 08.00 local time,and will end at 19.00. Kudret Hasanguliyev, candidate of the United Azerbaijan People’s Front Party, Araz Alizade, candidate of the Social-Democratic Party, Ferec Quliyev, candidate of the Azerbaijan National Resurrection Movement Party, Razi Nurullayev, candidate of the opposition in the Azerbaijani People’s Front, candidate of the Contemporary Musavat Party Hafiz Hajiyev, independent candidate Zahid Oruc and Democratic Party candidate Serdar Mammadov will compete in this election.
