Azerbaijan Republic celebrates its 100th anniversary

We celebrate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the People’s Republic of Azerbaijan . Founded on May 28, 1918, the AHC ended in April 1920.

On the occasion of this day celebration messages were sent to Azerbaijan Republic from many countries such as USA, Germany, Kyrgyzstan, Egypt, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Turkmenistan, Belgium, India, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Iran and Croatia, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Italy, Finland, South Korea, Switzerland, Sweden, Sudan, Morocco, Greece, Cuba, Hungary, Spain, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Iraq, China, Russia, Romania, Kazakhstan, and Lithuania.

On May 28, 1918, the National Council of Azerbaijan, under the chairmanship of Mehmet Emin Rasulzade, declared the independence of Azerbaijan Republic in Tbilisi, Georgia.

The temporary Azerbaijani government, which was formed under the leadership of Fethiye Han Hoyski, for a while under the occupation of Baku, Armenian and Bolshevik gangs, continued its activity in the city of Gence for a while.

It was the Ottoman State that first recognized the independence of Azerbaijan. The Caucasus Islamic Army under the command of Nuri Pasha (Killigil) was sent to help against the increasing Armenian and Bolshevik threats within the framework of the agreement between the two states. Göyçay, Salyan, Agsu and Kürdemir were cleared of Bolshevik associations and Armenian gangs and saved Baku on 15 September 1918. The Caucasian Islamic Army gave a thousand martyrs during the wars for the liberation of Baku.

In Azerbaijan, which is considered the first democratic republic of the East, short-term reforms were made in the field of education, freedom of religion and conscience, and the country’s own currency was printed.

In the “Declaration of Independence” of the Republic, equal rights were granted to all citizens regardless of race, religion, sect and gender.

The Republic of Azerbaijan ended with the invasion of the Soviet army’s country on 28 April 1920.

As Araz News family we wish you a glorious 100th anniversary of Azerbaijan!

You are with us, as long as you are here, I give my life.

Long live glorious AZERBAIJAN!

Mehemmed Emin Resulzade
