Iran says bird flu contained
Araz News: Iran says timely measures have prevented a bird flu epidemic in one of the country’s northern provinces.
Bird flue was seen in household poultry in Mazandaran Province in recent months, but because the Veterinary Organization took timely action, no case has been found in industrial units, Deputy Director of the Communicable Diseases’ Management Center of the Health Ministry Mahmoud Nabavi said.
He added the disease has also been contained in other provinces across the country, IRNA news agency reported July 12.
On June 15, the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) reported an outbreak of the highly pathogenic H5N1 bird flu virus among backyard chickens in a village in the north of the country.
Based on the report, the outbreak in Nogardan in Mazandaran province started on June 12. The virus killed 17 out of 25 susceptible birds at the location, and the remaining eight were destroyed, the OIE said in a statement, citing information from Iran’s agriculture ministry.
Azerbaijan and Iraq stopped importing poultry products from Iran following the situation.
