Azerbaijan’s first lady awards female freestyle wrestling winners of Baku 2015 (VIDEO)
Araz News via trend: Azerbaijan’s First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, who is also the Chairperson of the Baku 2015 Organising Committee, took part on June 15 at a ceremony of awarding the winners of the female freestyle wrestling competition in the 48 kg weight category, held as part of the Baku 2015 European Games.
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev was also present at the awarding ceremony.
The gold medal was captured by the Azerbaijan’s female wrestler Mariya Stadnyk. Bulgarian Elitsa Yankova settled for silver medal, after suffering a defeat from Stadnyk with a 12:1 score.
Polish Iwona Matkowska and Russia’s Valentina Islamova Brik shared the bronze medal, both coming in third place.
Mehriban Aliyeva personally awarded the athletes with medals.
The European Games that kicked off in Baku June 12, will last till June 28.
There is a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.
Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
