Iran to expand relations with Iraqi Kurdish region
Araz News via trend : Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister in Consular and Overseas Nationals Affairs Hassan Qashqavi arrived in Erbil, the capital of Kurdistan region, northern Iraq, to discuss ways to expand bilateral relations.
Qashqavi, heading a 7-member delegation, is scheduled to meet with Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Interior Minister Karim Sanjari, and Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani, Iran’s IRNA news agency reported on June 13.
Qashqavi is also planned to hold talks with the KRG Judiciary Minister regarding the issue of extraditing Iranians who are jailed in the region.
He will also appoint Amir Esmaeilian as the new Iranian consul general to the city of Suleimanieh.
Peyman Azhari, the deputy governor-general of Iran’s western province of Kordestan, said in Feb. that trade between Iran and Iraqi Kurdistan region has reached $6 billion a year from as low as $250 million ten years ago.
