Araz News:  Metsamor nuclear power plant in Armenia is a real threat to the region, Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz said.

The minister added that Turkey shouldn’t turn a blind eye to this nuclear power plant; the operation of which is very risky, Anadolu agency reported May 6.

Metsamor (Armenian) nuclear power plant was built in 1970. It was closed after the devastating earthquake in Spitak in 1988. But despite international protests, the operation of the power plant was resumed in 1995. Moreover, a second reactor was launched.

Seismic activity of the region makes the operation of the nuclear power plant in Metsamor an extremely dangerous activity, even in case of construction of the reactor of the new type, according to environmentalists and scientists from all over the region.
