Human rights organizations worry about ‘widespread arrests’ in Khuzestan

Araz news : Organizations Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch reports have expressed concern about the arrest of dozens of Arab citizens in Iran’s Khuzestan province.

The two organizations have announced a statement of Arab activists abroad to inform them that from mid-March of this year at least 78 Arab citizens and perhaps even more than 100 people in Ahvaz city or surrounding towns and villages, has been arrested due to the protests.

Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch said, according to the families of the detained suspects, the security forces have begun to arrest without a court order to be provided.

In this regard, Hassiba Sahravi, Amnesty International’s Middle East director, said: “The detention of Iranian Arab rights activists reported within the last few weeks is deeply concerning.”

He added: “The Iranian authorities must stop arbitrary arrests those Peaceful protests and express their views and they should to be released from prison immediately.

According to the two institutions, more arrests have been made because of the tenth anniversary of widespread protests was launched in Khuzestan in April 2005.

Iranian officials have not yet responded to the report.

According to the report, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, one of the detainees,  Ms.Hatem Abyatyat (35) from Hamidieh (cities of Khuzestan ) was arrested at two o’clock in the morning of the sixth day of April in his home. Also Mustafa Haidar, 17, a resident of the Alavi in Ahvaz was arrested on April seventh.

Yasin Ahwazi activist for human rights and the rights of the Arabs of Khuzestan, from Copenhagen, Denmark said: “Our concern is that the government’s draconian security atmosphere which Mr. Ruhani (president of Iran) had repeatedly promised to fix it, but not only resolve the security environment but also added suppressed. On the other hand, high unemployment and poverty have led to protests by Arab citizens of the state, but unfortunately demonstrators faced with suppressed of security forces. “
