Araz News: One of the valuable monuments of the history of Azerbaijan was transferred from the Hermitage Museum of Russia, one of the largest and oldest museums in the world to the History Museum of North Azerbaijan.
The antiquity of this Flag which donated by Abbas Mirza to the prince of Nakhichevan is more than 200 years. The history of this flag comes back to the period of Qajar Empire and Russian Empire.
Abbas Mirza (Qajar crown prince) had been awarded the flag to the prince of Nakhichevan in order to appreciate the alliance with them during the Aslandoz war in 1918. At the same time, the flag was also taken as booty to Russia and was kept in the Hermitage Museum of St. Petersburg of Russia.
Parvin Gozelof the expert flag of the History Museum of Azerbaijan said: “we observe similarities between current flag the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Flag donated by Abbas Mirza to the prince of Nakhichevan in analyzing the markings and symbols.”
Parvin Gozelof added:“ This is very interesting, because until now it was thought that Crescent and star symbols on the current flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan has been used since 1918. Means the years of the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan after the collapse of the USSR.However, we see the Flag of the prince of Nakhichevan territory has many similarity in the case of Crescent and star symbols with current flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan. ”
This expert of history Museum of the Republic of Azerbaijan added that there are many other historical monuments which belong to history of Azerbaijan like Silver Key ‘Darband castle inside Military Museum of St. Petersburg.
