Araz news: Khalaf Khalafov has met his Spanish counterpart.

Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Khalaf Khalafov and general director on foreign policy and security of the Spanish Foreign Ministry Enrique Mor held a meeting as part of the political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Azerbaijan and Spain.

Oxu.Az reports that during the meeting Khalaf Khalafov stressed the development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Spain and said there are favorable conditions for development of ties in political, economic, humanitarian, tourism and other spheres.

Khalaf Khalafov said Azerbaijan is interested in establishing strategic partnership with the European Union and expressed the hope that Spain will support Azerbaijan’s efforts in this direction.

Expressing satisfaction with the current level of relations between the two countries, Enrique Mora agreed with his counterpart and noted a high potential for development of cooperation. Enrique Mora said that they are interested in the soonest official visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Spain and underlined that his country is a reliable partner for Azerbaijan both in bilateral format and within international organizations.

Khalaf Khalafov noted that Azerbaijan is an important partner for the EU in the South Caucasus and said that the unresolved Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict poses a serious threat to peace and security in the region. He also stressed the importance of effective steps by reputable organizations such as the UN, the European Union and the OSCE for the early resolution of the conflict.

Noting that the support of separatism for ethnic, religious belonging and attempts to split the country are contrary to democratic principles, Mora emphasized that territorial integrity and sovereignty of a state are fundamental principles for Spain. He said that from this point of view, they support the peaceful settlement of Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict only within the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

The sides exchanged views on other bilateral and international issues of mutual concern.
