The number marriages with children brides in East Azerbaijan is increasing.

Head of the Department of the Provincial Records of the Provinces Ahad Codi revealed that there were many marriages of such kind in the country last year.

“Last year, 30,862 marriages were recorded in Eastern Azerbaijan. 8 of them are girls under 10 years of age, 3 thousand 625 between 10-14 years, 9 thousand 408 between 15-19 years and 6 thousand 968 between 20-24 years said.

The president of the registration office pointed to birth and death rates. According to them, the natural increase in Eastern Azerbaijan last year was 17.1% and the mortality rate was 5.6%. These figures show that the birth rate in Eastern Azerbaijan is lower and the mortality rate is higher than the Iranian average.

Ahad Codi noted that marriage and divorce cases are at a high level in Eastern Azerbaijan.

Under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, persons under the age of 18 are considered children and their marriage is against the law. The Iranian regime is breaking this law with tens of thousands of early marriages each year. Of course, forced marriages are related to the cultural and economic situation of their families. Studies show that early marriage is more prevalent in lower income families.
